Hare and
Tortoise
A 2D frame-by-frame animated retelling of Aesop's classic fable, produced entirely in Photoshop with a hand-drawn visual style.
The Animation
About the Project
This project is a 2D frame-by-frame animated adaptation of Aesop's Hare and Tortoise fable. Each frame was hand-drawn digitally in Photoshop, building up movement through traditional animation principles - anticipation, follow-through, and squash and stretch.
The project was an exercise in character performance and timing, translating the contrast between the Hare's boisterous energy and the Tortoise's steady determination into motion. The visual style uses loose, expressive linework with a limited colour palette to keep the focus on movement and character.
The Characters
Fast, cocky, and easily distracted. The Hare's animation leans into exaggerated poses and snappy timing to convey his arrogance and impulsiveness throughout the race.
Slow, deliberate, and determined. The Tortoise's movement uses heavy, grounded timing - each step weighted and purposeful, creating a satisfying contrast with the Hare's frenetic energy.
